new to cable tv what cable box(es) should i be looking at

I can only receive VM so what box should I be looking at
Is it possible to watch one channel and record another or,
is it only possible to watch the one channel?
grateful for any pointers

you can also record while watching another channel with adding another usb device to it i think. cant remember what it is called but i am sure one of the members can post a link to it

Depends on budget and system needed, if its just pure cable then the above mentioned box is not advisable as its both sat and cable which would be a waste. There are lots of good twin tuner cable boxes which will allow you to record and watch another with the Xtrend ET8500 on special offer at present. There's also the Vu+ Solo SE v2 that you can get with twin DVB-C tuners or the GigaBlue range too. Plus you'll need to buy a hard drive to store all your recordings on. The various boxes can take them internally or externally so that may be a factor in your decision too.
It's all down to how much you wish to spend on it.
