Skybox F3/F5/F5S and updating them, particularly clone versions

I have bought a skybox f5s from an uk sheller on ebay.
I have checked the qrcode outside the box, and send me to the skybox.cc web syte.
Afther few days the decoder is dead (red led and 8 on display). I have restored the decoder with serial connection.
Now when i try to update to the last firmware trough usb the decoder return me the "mismatch error"; if i try by lan give me "error".

Is the serial connection the only way to update my skybox?


I have read (i forgot where) the skybox.cc had put a kind of "protection" from updates, and the solution is upload inside the decoder a different firmware from X- some model.. (damned mind!!!)
Someone knows any kind of specific??

Mismatch seems you have a clone or loading wrong firmware for the box

When i have scanned the qrcode the corrispondent link is that of skybox.cc website...


Maybe the qrcode is a clone??


There is a risk of brick my decoder if i load a firmware form skybox.cc? (using the serial connection..)

Now I'm looking for where i have read of the skybox.cc safety block.. If I find it will update you..
 
Does the serial number under the normal barcode on the outer box match up with the serial number underneath the F5s?
 
it can also be quite difficult to find the correct firmware for your box unless the supplier tells you. it is just a case of trying them all till you find the correct one. the good news is once you have found it your box should function normaly.

I have found the post on another forum, it says..


"Some firmwares block the usb upgrades to avoid future damage of the receiver if wrong firmware is loaded.
If message "upgrade file is mismatch" appears when trying to update firmware, it means usb upgrades are disabled."


Anyone have some confirmation ?? the file is from HDS9-yw-1201...
 
you get what you are given with a skybox. this qustion has been answered before please search before asking

I have solved!


The serial number outside in the box and that inside onto the decoder are different!
The "hardware mismatch" write is because.. on the box and the decoder is written F5S, but is possible to upload trough usb/lan tool ONLY F5 FIRMWARE!!! :damn:

I flashed our legit F3 box via USB with the latest FW from Skybox.cc (23/12/2013) last Saturday and everything is fine so far.

I did try to use the LAN tool to update the channel list over wired connection recently, three times in fact, and it seems very temperamental. It worked the first time, however the second and third time it hung on 18%, the box restarted but was very glitchy and had factory reset itself i.e. Time/Network/Language/Line settings all reset.

I simply deleted all channels, performed a manual factory reset (I'd already taken a backup), rebooted, popped in the network settings and amended the other settings and rebooted, then did a blind scan, updated the channel list via USB and rebooted, then popped in my line manually, one more reboot and everything was hunky dory!

Sounds like a lot of work but took all of 5-10 mins.

Does anyone know if the F5S skybox supports connection 2 way diseqc 2.0 Satellite Dish LNB switches and does it make any difference to signal quality?

Just to update, I've rolled my F3 back to the 31/10/2012 FW, as I noticed the 23/12/2013 FW caused an audio glitch on some channels every 20-30 seconds whereby the audio would cut out for 1 second consistently. After rolling back there's no glitches whatsoever, we don't use the YouTube/YouPorn apps either so no need for them.
 
For a clone skybox f5s? Thought skybox.cc is just for originals?

EDIT.. Tried it from skybox.cc file mismatch

Hi thanks for the update, as i am planning on picking up one.. i never knew there's clones out there.. Can someone plz guide me on what's the best box to purchase and from where ? Also I would need to flash custom firmware for the wink wink stuff ? Please let me know people thanks in advance.. p.s I'm in the UK so I'll need a sky custom box i think ?? Thanks

I think you need to do a bit more reading up on this first - you don't need custom firmware so to speak. Read the stickies.

I think you need to do a bit more reading up on this first - you don't need custom firmware so to speak. Read the stickies.

Thanks I did just check out the stickes there's loads of threads would it be possible you can recommend a receiver or a link to the right stickie thread ?? Thanks
