you need to load the 1.03 ups file onto a usb memory stick, which needs to be a fat 32.
put stick in usb slot at the back of box, (make sure box is switched off) switch box on
go to usb in menu, choose first option not sure what its called but its not the bootloader one,
you really should read all the starview 7 firmware guides.
I hope this helps.

Here is what is in the s/v 7 tuts do try and look for it in the threads next time eh!,

Load carling 1.03 ups file on usb stick.
Go to menu then utility select usb on the right, click select 1.03 ups file,
OK You will see the Carling/UK "1.03 UPS" File Press ok on it and make sure to select top one " S/W upgrade"
if thats whats there ok."Dont select second one, bootloader i think."
The machine will update and restart only takes a couple of mins even less. (don't pull your memory stick out until the machine has fully started up) .

You now need to scan your channels, NO SPLITTERS ON YOUR INCOMING CABLE WHEN DOING YOUR SCAN
so go to installation press the right arrow button again and go down to AUTO CABLE SEARCH
all you need to change here is the symbol rate.
The symbol rate determines your area for example N*l is 6887, the other numbers are 6952 for Telepe** and EXc&w.
When you have selected your area go to start scan.

Once the scan has finished
Go to menu then down to "accessory" "do not" click anything, now on remote control press the numbers "8989"
you will then see "Key edit" or "Emulator" appear on the right hand side underneath the two icons already there,
go to it and press ok and just check that auto update is on if its off just turn it on.

Then go to to your channels by exiting the menu and pressing ok..
Select a non FTA channel and leave it until a picture appears
PLEASE NOTE IT CAN TAKE UPTO 5 MINUTES TO UPDATE SO BE PATIENT

To use with LAN connection and To Enable Ethernet Go To,
Menu - Option -networks - net application - select type “Ustream(UK) or Istream(Irealnd) - ok)
NET APPLICATION won't appear until software and channels are on box.

If they have 16:9 TV please follow up “ Option -> OSD Setup -> Screen Format

Thats it Enjoy!!!

word of warning do not insert or remove usb stick while box is powered on as you may brick it=return to supplier only fix.
follow the guides, also do a factory reset and a new scan without lan inserted, plug lan in after channels are scanned in and reboot box and router

box has to be flashed first with firmware before you can find settings, the sv6 tut is the same for sv7 have a read for info of how to setup correctly, all info above in stickies.

Hi have tried the upgrade, get to the file on usb stick and when I press OK I get a message saying "upgrade file check" - "unknown upgrade file" - "OK" - press OK and it goes back to usb file list? trying 1.03 and 1.04 both with no success.
Any ideas please

It is a Starview 7 and not a Starview 6 you are trying to flash? Starview 7 firmware here
Starview 6 firmware here

If you are using the correct firmware i can only suggest maybe trying a different USB stick.

Hi thanks for response, got the file from where you directed me and the 1.03 elsewhere on site. Have tried 4 different sticks and if I had hair I would have torn ity out by now lol.
Just don't understand it, flashing is normally so easy.

Yes I suppose thats why it is so frustrating, have followed the guide and when I use the starview and go to usb I can clearly see the file "carling.1.04.ups" - it's just when I choose and click to try and execute it I get the message -"upgrade file check" - "unknown upgrade file" - "OK" - press OK and it goes back to usb file list?
Thanks for your help guys it's appreciated.

One other thing might be worth a try if you have not already, and that is to use the Starview to reformat the stick and recopy the file to it. Bit of a straw clutcher :)

And this may be a silly question, but it does have Starview 7 printed on the front of the box and not TheBox USB or the like.
