Aspect Ratio Sidebars

Anyone know why there seems to be a lot of channels with a narrow aspect ratio. Black side bars left and right. Tv ratio set to auto or 16.9. Channels on FHD , HD , no change .
Also checked the box settings (Buzz) Still no joy.
