What's new

Eagle Nest Decorah Eagles

Just saw 2+2 parents, and one has come back from KFC or somewhere with a snackboxlol good to see that they can hunt as well, even if it is only a little tiddler.

Like our own kids taking there first steps in walking.

Only difference is, for the eagles it will be all over very soon and all will be on their own lol

For us, first it was when they reached 18, then 21 but now it's 41, 51, 61........... for life :willy nilly: lol

Feeding frenzy again I see, Mum & Dad kept busy ;)

I just got so excited seeing our youngsters flying around.

That you and Theresa's kids flying around Ally???LOL

have to agree with both you and Gman, to sit watching for hours when nothing is happening to now, it is such an achievement for all three to survive, and now to start all over again with their own families.

R.I.P D12 :(

~I was on their facebook page earlier and there was a photo of D12 and sad comments under it, I didn't realise this was one of the chicks, nor did I know what had happened.
That is sad news. R.I.P.

They (D12) are like your own pets when you have watched them for a while that do not live in your home, it is more sad in some respects than some of the famous people who have sadly passed away recently, certainly for me anyway.

I have found out the cam ended Saturday wheelo and starts again November.

D12 was the first to die of the 14 famous eagles who have nested in Decorah. The bird won’t be buried.

“The carcass needs to be turned over to the Fish & Wildlife Service, sent to the National Eagle Repository,” Anderson said, and its “feathers distributed to the Indian community.”

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service established the National Eagle Repository in Denver, Colo., in the early 1970s to provide the feathers of golden and bald eagles for Native American religious services.

Have a quick look at the live feed. Did that little field mouse get away?

Dear Hiteck ,

It has been some time but we wanted to get in touch to let you know that our beloved Decorah Eagles are back.

As you may know, last year, in 2013, the eagles built a second nest and there was not enough time to place a new camera without interfering with nature. As a result many were not able to witness the eagles.

Now, in 2014, the eagles remain at their new nest (N2), but the Raptor Resource Project has installed brand new cameras so that we may all share in this natural phenomenon and watch as the eagles once again give life to another set of eaglets.

Mom and Dad have been working hard to prepare the nest. In past years, the eagles have laid their eggs between February 17th and 25th so be prepared as eggs may be laid in the next week or so.

We are excited to share this natural wonder again this year and look forward to keeping you updated.

Check out all of the action now:

Excellent news, off I go! ;) just in time for egg laying. 👍

A spot of DIY going on, this looks to be a much smaller nest. I read that they add to it every year and the one they left behind could hold a man lying down easily. (I read that last year , I think) :)

Good to see'em again. Weather is very snowy, can't wait for the camera to pan around to get an idea whrre they are now in comparison to 2012.
