linux boxes will never be paper weights as people think, tsmedia plugin gives you movies and sports via iptv services,i have 4 no way paper weight boxes not like skyboxes, and more than 1 sat up there for viewing, there is more to sky than sky [ even though i do like it ]lol

I have virgin media internet. Pretty much all the TSmedia sites are blocked (ice films. 1channel etc). So that rules out that option for me.

Plus I have a HTPC I use XBMC with for all that. With a VPN installed.

I won't even chance putting it on eBay to try and recoup some cash because knowing my luck It'd get reported and I'd get suspended or such.

Sorry to sound like a bit of an arse but SD doesn't cut it for me. And I'm rather annoyed with myself right now for wasting so much cash.

Take off anything you shouldnt and flog now if you dont like whats happening. No one can say its anything other than a great satbox. Simple

There is a way around one channel and ice films. Just research as loads of sites tell you how

Ordered the BM5000. Decided not to go for the more expensive Vu or Octagon given the current state of play with HD channels. £79 isn't a huge investment. The way I see it is that SD channels are better than No D channels!

Hopefully the BM is a good enough box to watch what's out there!

Would skybox.cc produce something to play this new codec as I'm sure they will lose out shocking.

I guess eventually they might do so. They could also come out with a firmware fix (provided the current boxes are compatible) which enables the current boxes to play the latest codec that Sly has switched to. They could also use this opportunity to come out with new series of boxes with the updated codec so that you are forced to spend £60-100 on a new box and ditch your current skybox.

Also does the Hardware-card pairing also have a geo-lock on it for the new HD boxes ? Does the sly server check if the viewing card paired with the HD box is in slot and also in the correct geographic part of UK/EU where the subscription address says it is?

Any eventual fix would have to authenticate/clone the card and HD box code to the Sly server to keep running as a Sly HD box would.

Just out of interest, if there is a change in firmware required, new codecs etc, would it be beneficial to be on a Linux system rather than a SkyBox? Just thinking about the future here - are Linux systems such as the Vu/Octagon better supported? (I actually changed my decision to go for the BM5000 and instead went for the Octagon SF8, hope it was a wise choice..

Another post that is not on topic, don't want to take the moderators place but remember, this isn't a thread to discuss issues with your signal, if your channels are down due to CS issues or bad signal issues this has nothing to do with the channels actually being taken down by Sky.

It's probably best if people kept a little patient and see what happens over the next few days before we get all excited. As of right now, the channels listed in the thread title appear to have permanently gone down. Arguable, the channels that are down are probably not going to affect anybody too much given their nature.

So it's only a matter of time before the HD channels disappear altogether and how long that will take or if it will happen any time soon, no one knows.

That's about where we are with all of this from my point of view. So let's just sit back, wait on updates from guys like AJ Sat, see if anything major changes in the listing, and just stay in the loop by reading other posts.

Peace.

The channels are "there" you will still get a signal from them, they just wont clear.

When a channel is "moved" it shows no signal, two completely different things altogether.

IMO channel lists are rubbish, they are usually out of date, you are always better doing manual scans, especially if your motorized, theres no point having a 2000 channel list if your dish only sees 300 of them.

If you have a message saying No Signal on some HD channels but most other channels are fine, then you are most likely using a universal or quad LNB on your dish.

These LNB`s operate at around 13 volt`s for channels with a vertical frequency and around 18 volt`s for channels with a horizontal frequency.

Some satellite receivers operate at a higher voltage and cannot switch between vertical and horizontal frequencies.

so, if your box cant switch the voltages, you wont get a signal from the channels on that H/V frequency.

some VU boxes are the same, those cables do work IF that is your problem.

Relative to skyboxs etc but not all boxs in this forum

I have been getting used to SD its that bad but not great lol.

HD when its fully gone will be really sad, as it wont be around possibly again.

Can also confirm Sky Atlantic has gone for good.

Man this is going to get worse now with the movie and sports channels going soon.

It's not such a bad situation
We'll all get used to SD again fairly quickly, if that goes, it's back to talking with the missus :)

Hi all

I'm new to the forum but have been following this thread with interest.

So to those with the Technological knowledge, insight and intuition (you know who you are!!!) - What is your gut feel on where this will end up:

1. If this is a carbon copy of sly italia - has there been any progress/fixes there?
2. Is there likely to be any fixes here? Has anybody heard of anything/ideas?

I'm personally ok with SD for programmes and movies but think HD comes into its own with the sports.

Cheers Andrew
