anyone ever used libre office? begrudge paying MS if this is just as good. only need it for word tbh need to also buy MS Visio if anyone knows if it comes with Libre.

I use libre office, and librecalc,
Just as good as ms word for what I need it for, gives you a choice of what format to save to.

Why would you use libre office when you can get Office 2016 Pro for £4 of Fleabay? I have got all my grandkids and myself cheap Office from Fleabay and never had a problem. I have had mine a few years now but I only use Word, the kids use the full suite. Just go on Fleabay and search Microsoft Office, as I said, I immediately found 2016 pro for £4, there may be some cheaper!

Libre office allows you to use lots of different file types, I don't think ms office can do that.
I dont doubt what you are saying for one minute but having used Microsoft for many, many years you get used to the format. Secondly my gandkids use MS Office at school and their computers for homework, despite the fact Libre is compatible with MS try explaining that to them, no chance.

Well something tells me if you pay £4 for MS 2016 Office Pro when it should be over £150 it aint strictly kosher! Having said that my grandson did his degree dissertation with it, and I know he recently did his job CV. In other words use common sense if its an important document password it and back it up to a memory card, even take a hard copy to make triple sure. I would do that with any important doc. Your biggest problem is not the hooky software its your computer thats why I took the hard drive out of an old laptop to back up everything, photos, docs the lot, regardless of whether it was produced by genuine or hacked software. I still get updates from Microsoft online.
PS I am not aiming this at Libre as I know that is good software but some of the freeware is to be totally avoided.
PS PS! The spell check definately works! importent?

To buy from Microsoft I think it said something like £70 on their website. this one is sold apparently in bulk to system builders you do get official key code.
It seems to be like buying windows of eBay genuine keys but you just download everything

I've used libreoffice for years, I don't use it for much, word and calc propably the most but why pay for legit MS office or run the risk of dodgy version when you can run libre office legit for free and it does everything most people would ever need.

I lied, I used to use LibreOffice but now use Apache Open Office but for same reasons, it's free and does everything I want.

I have used the cheap ms office from the bay on several computers, multiple purchases and installs never had any problems except once when I still had the old office installed. Best to use the official ms tool to fully remove office before re-installing.

This is completely based on my personal experience with Libreoffice. It may work for other people well but for me it did not worked.

I don’t edit large documents often enough, but based on my experience LibreOffice has annoying bugs and quirks when using it. Office software is very complex, but this type of open source doesn’t attract the large and knowledgeable developer communities that contribute to other projects.
Since Microsoft Office 365 file formats are complex, compatibility with LibreOffice and other third-party software is not perfect.

Adrian

I didnt get on with openoffice/LibreOffice, these days I buy from the bay for a few quid. As above use the official MS office removal software to clean out any old office files first. (y)

I had a dodgy xp Windows disc years ago for £10 it had shit loads of software including office 2007enterprise still works and updates I must have shared it with loafs of friends and family, takes a bit of installing but we'll worth the effort!!
