Another IPTV Shutdown - Police Logging IP's

Totally agree with @Taylerlee. Its like saying Trading Standards will prosecute you for wearing a jarg Lacoste T-shirt!

Oh, and far easier than investigating users isp’s is to just look at the suppliers paypal accounts!

Breaking News! Police from numerous countries including U.K. smash a massive criminal network during operation Venetic also seize £50 M plus now that’s what they should be doing not buggering about with peoples hobby’s!

Best way to look at it. They do spot checks in bars for iptv or Cs, if you're caught you've to take out the full sky package which I think is 6 thousand for bars. No jail, if they get a slap on the wrist I highly doubt someone watching it at home alone will get worse than a threatening letter or email (a bit like when you torrent)

so many people think a VPN will protect you... nope it wont...sure it will clear content that wont clear without a VPN but this still doesn't hide your activity or stop your internet provider from knowing your every move, internet providers have the ability to know where & when you have connected simply by looking at logs which makes me wonder IF running a 'virtual machine' behind a VPN would be any different? networking isn't my strongest subject what do you guys think?

Lots of people seemed insistent that they'd done a runner and were going to setup under a new name to get new customers. They don't take into account that a long running provider has a steady stream of repeat customers and potential recommendations from existing customers. It would make zero sense for a provider with a large established customer base to shut up shop.

All your ISP knows is there's data traffic behind a VPN. For example say you download something or watch a film online they will know you've trafficked '2gb' worth of data but they don't know what that data is. You're safe behind a VPN aslong as theres no logs and they don't sell your info.

I saw a recent vid on VPN's & there misconceptions, one thing that stood out to me was that even with a VPN running all activity is shown to you net provider IF they want to look at it (some legal privacy protection but not much) which sort of makes a VPN useless in terms of giving any kind of protection, you can fool geographical locations & circumvent blocks but not hide your activity from your ISP. Which is what made me think of a virtual machine setup.... isn't this the way hackers/scammers hide themselves?

Whatever you watched is bullshit. VPN's hide your browsing Activity from your ISP. All your ISP will know is that you're using the Internet (amount of data sent) but won't know what you're doing. A virtual machine is the same you're still connected to your ISP.

I used to be as confident as you are about this but recent learning has made me question a lot of what I thought I knew

I'm very confident. All your ISP can see is your VPN, Timing and the amount of data sent. That's all. Don't worry. All traffic is encrypted.

so the only real advantage of a virtual machine behind a VPN is to limit the possible damage that could be done by an attacker like restoring deleted files etc it offers no further activity protection?

Virtual machines have lots of uses. Testing as well as other things. It's all about common sense.

with a vpn all your ISP can see is the traffic between you and the VPN server. The ISP can't see the traffic beyond the VPN server.

But do VPN's keep logs, ideally not but how does the end user know if logs are kept? If authorities raided a VPN provider, even if they had no logging they could easily monitor the traffic coming through the VPN server

Well said. It's all fun and games until Nord VPN releases my Saturday night porn fetishes.
