Best Enigma 2 boxes?

Hello all - I'm thinking of getting one of these types of boxes, manly as we currently pay £7 a month for Sky Q just to use the freeview channels. I've read a few boxes mentioned in this thread, but what box would anyone recommend? My needs are just to use it for Freesat, and preferably have recording facilities (we have Sky Q mainly as the wife records all the soaps via series link).

I have a firecube which I use for now tv, streamio and IPTV, I've read that using Android is better than an enigma box for IPTV, however reading other posters I like the thought of being able to put some of my IPTV sports channels into a folder on the TV guide which I believe can be done?

Not sure if it's easier just to buy one of those official Freesat recorders for £200?

Last question - if using IPTV channels on an enigma box, can a VPN be used? I use PIA VPN on my firecube currently.

Thanks in advance for any replies
Hi

It depends on your needs. Do you want to be able to record multiple FTA channels at once?
If so, then you will need a multi tuner box or an FBC satellite tuner. I think gigablue and VU offer FBC satellite tuners. I have a VU ULTIMO 4k which for me is the best receiver because i use it for multiple purposes but its expensive
Please note, if your LNB is a sky q one only then these wont work on any freeview or Enigma 2 receiver unless you have the hybrid LNB with legacy outputs.

IPTV runs very well on enigma 2 if you are able to add your playlist onto the box.

I am sure its possible to put a VPN on the enigma 2 but i dont know how to do this, there must be a guide somewhere. You can just put the VPN on your router when you need it and it will work like that by default.

Thanks for the replies, I have the universal LNB, I've just not fitted yet

The AB Pulse looks smart though, in terms of what I need it for, if I can watch one channel via freesat, and record a second then that's all I require, not interested in anything other than 28.2 and the free channels only. I'd just like to cut ties with Sky and also have something to play with, some of the skins I see on this forum look great

In terms of the IPTV & VPN, that would just be a bonus

In that case yh you just need to replace the LNB with the universal one and as long as its got at least 2 ports then you can watch one channel and record another.

Recording multiple channels with a twin tuner E2 can allow up to 8 channels. It all depends on the transponder. The 2 tuners can connect to two transponders of which may each carry several channels you watch.

Running VPN on E2 is possible but needs a bit of knowledge to set up.

Also just looking at buying a internal hard drive, should I opt for an SSD over a HDD which I read Sky Q uses?

Thanks again for the replies really helpful

I think a HDD will be perfectly fine for general file storage and recording. For mass storage HDD is way more economical.
If you prefer something completely silent and much more responsive then you can choose the SSD
