It certainly is Gman, hope they get the go ahead to remove some of the nest twigs. Hate to see it fall down and eagles move which would equal no more nest cam in the future.

jodav :)

It's become so big that they'll have to do something to insure it's future, hopefully!

I read on one of the sites when researching that the record for any birds nest weight was three ton believe it or not, it was a bald eagles nest also. i do not know if it was in a strong tree or on a mountain ledge or something.

wow not seen this fora while as i was away and busy getting back to life last week. How they have grown in just around 6 weeks or so! they look like adults now with all their feathers!

To think at one point when the last one hatched it was weak and we wernt sure if it would make it!

They are sure some size, especially considering that the nest is full and it is 5 foot in diameter.
Very Blowy up there today, I am getting sea sick just watching the tree shake to and fro.

Another very windy day today, looks like the chicks will slide off. Tree is very creaky.

jodav :)

I was going to say that, jodav.(Creaky) But then i thought it was my bones lollollollol Just going to have my first look for today

Gman as we now have so many pages can we have a link to the 1st post with link to the site at the top of each page by any chance. I know im sure most of us have the page bookmarked but be nice to have a link at the top of each page - like you sometimes do with long threads. Or is it to late now to put that in place. Just a thought!

Here is some very interseting news\information :)

The Raptor Resource Project plans to trap and fit a transmitter to one of the Decorah eaglets this year. As we did last year, we will wait until the eaglets have been on the wing for a few weeks before attempting to trap one of them. This assures that the eaglet's flight muscles will be fully developed and the transmitter will fit properly. We work with an experienced biologist to trap and attach the transmitter.. We want to know how similar this eaglet's behavior will be to that of its HY (Hatch Year) 2011 sibling D1. We know that D1 makes long flights, has a pronounced affinity for rivers, and enjoys the company of other eagles. A longitudinal study will give us more depth and information about the behavior of Iowa's Bald eagles and help identify what they need to survive and thrive in the wild.

Read more on this here.
