Can anyone shed some light what this option exactly does?

on original receiver one can import the newest online image and save it for flashing after it downloaded,local is probably by usb.should work on official images for these boxes but most like to stay safe.

Yeah local is an image you've got saved on your storage which you can flash restore.

in online is there an option where you can flash from? that would be good if you could it would be a case of using a dropbox account or something similar
