Recommendations for Android Box

The Bomber

Newbie
Hi everyone hope his is the right place, I've been having issues with my fire cube so I'm looking for an Android Box, my budget is around £100, Thanks Bomber

I personally have cube and other fire tv's
I would not purchase Amazon again.
Amazon are increasingly locking down their OS , having trouble sideloading apps. You have to change your region to actually sideload an app and it can be a pain.

Their default launcher is ad ridled also and they just keep pushing down updates to force their way- custom launchers are getting wiped out. Sideloaded apps then show as blank tiles have the time.

A buddy bought a Chromecast with Google Tv- took him 5 mins to sideload an app, took me half the day on fire tv.

I would opt for something Android Tv based box but not an Amazon product .

I´ve been using a budget box with no complaints for a couple of years now.. the X96Air 4/64GB version.

Why is it taking you so long to sideload an app? it shouldn't be taking that long.

Could not sideload app-
I extracted an APK from my other fire tv- would not run on my other box - gives error "owner is not licensed" . Okay I assume as amazon does not like the movement of fire tv apks from one location to another.

Then tried the Google android tv APK version from APK mirror sideload option - did not work - requires Google play services- okay sideloaded those - that bricked my device then won't start now.

The only way that worked was to change my country in amazon website over to another region to download app. That itself was an utter pain in arse as when I done it - it wiped out kids tablet and reset it's region.

So my conclusion sideloading is much easier on Google TV as you have Google play services at u're disposal. Also they don't have this bloody license control , amazon seem to be inserting some sort of DRM when I Extract an app from one device and move it to another.

Out of interest, has anyone else been having the same issues as @skjom ?

I bought both the fire stick 4k max and chromecast with google tv on prime day but one will most likely go back to Jeff.

I set up a cube the other week - downloader app, vpn app, iptv app, vod app, a couple of terrestrial TV apps, no problems at all - all done in probs less than 10 minutes

I've setup a few fire devices lately and not a single issue installing apps via downloader... saying that the chromecast with google tv is better with less ads and latest google os.

I have cube and 4k stick and never had any side loading issues, most of my apps are usa/ Canada using Easy Fire Tools from playstore

It depends on the app - for example , how do you take an actual fire tv apk from one device onto another fire tv via sideloaded - anytime I try this get license errors. Only way it seems to work is not sideloading it and changing regions for your Amazon device and downloading to each device .(this method is quite annoying as need to change account)
Im also talking about actual fire tv apps ripped from a fire tv not from Google TV.

Second thing is how do you side load an app dependant on Google services. If you take an app from APK pure , mirror etc intended for Google Tv and it depends on Google play services, it won't work. Loading google services itself can brick the device.

So it very much depends on the app.
Some are easy, some are an absolute pain.
I've 3 fire TVs every firmware update makes life harder to use them. Will be going to Chromecast TV from here on end.

Are all your fire TVs using different accounts? The easiest option to your first issue would be to change your Amazon account country when downloading an app, and then send that app to all your devices.

Why are you trying to copy apps from one device to another? Is there a reason why you don't just set it up the way you installed the apps on the original device?

Well yes there is , I have blocked the Amazon Updates as they keep sending out rubbish updates such as hiding developer options or sending an update to kill the custom launcher.
I do not like opening them back up and want control on what they are doing.

You would imagine installing an APK would be a simple process directly on device. on Android TV on Chromecast, I can rip APKs and move them , I can download APKs and sideload them.

My point is this is not so on fire tv, they want you to live within their ecosystem and are increasing their measures to do this.

If you need to install a app from different region there is now only one real method , changing your account over and opening the door back up to their updates.

You could try getting it from ApK pure etc . But if app depended on Google play services you are kinda snookered.

I find it bizarre I can't sideload an APK built for Fire TV. It rips and installs and launches not issue , it's whatever dam check they running that detects "you do not own this app"

Further to this I would like a device under 100 euro that I can customize the home screen on and install apps from other geographic areas ?

I don't know what that device is , it's not the Fire TV, Chromecast with Google TV is just about possible.

I don't want adds and crappy banners just a homescreen with a list of my apps.

Stick all your apps into dropbox - copy the url from dropbox paste it into AFVNEWS url shortener and it will give you a pin code - Type that into downloader it will install the app takes all of 1 minute.

Just get an andoid box or Nvidia Shield, I think they are just android boxes in stick form but never used one personally.
