GigaBlue Dcolor GD1 Giga TV Mediaplayer Stick 4K PRO Review

Definitely I’d say it is’ be even better with a custom launcher installed the likes of Projectivity’ shame latest kodi is only displaying 1080p resolution when my device is set to 4K 🤔
I've read this is a problem with Kodi ill try and find it for you.

Ah right never had an issue on my Hisence Tv's

Much prefer using catch up on that than firing up the Shield

I have 2023 Samsung, tizen os is slow to fire up, but once up and running it works ok but tbh no idea why the tizen os is so crap
I’ve read that if you disable Samsung tv plus it runs a lot smoother

To disable this:

Press home Hover over Samsung tv plus Hold the select button Hit remove Hit disable

Ah yes i did see something about this that the kodi GUI is at 1080 but when content is played for instance 4K it plays at that resolution apparently not sure how true this is

Play a 1080p video and a 4k one and see if you can see the difference. Also, press the i button on your tv remote, it should tell you the resolution.

Well it’s only been two weeks.
Maybe by easter we'll know

I would say a Google stick Is good enough.

You only really need
1. Iptv app
2 something like streamio
3. Vpn

2 and 3 are optional. If you use loads of apps like netflix, fubo and dazn you will probably want something like a sheild anyway.
You may not be able to get apps like fubo on the dcolor if they start to apply the same restrictions like bbc and itv and only make their TV apps available for devices sold in their local markets. Whereas with the Chromecast and Shield, they're global so cannot really see this issue occurring.

BBC can be very picky with iPlayer. When they first rolled out 4K streams, and then later HDR, they only made them available for select devices to begin with, before rolling them out to more devices.

I know it’s off topic but I did some testing to see how much resources were needed on my device to run iptv and it’s not a lot really.
My device has 4gb of RAM and has the latest Amlogic chip. When the device is just running the OS and only running background apps the ram used is 1.75gb of RAM and CPU is at 0-3%
When I ran iptv using Tivimate and watched FHD channels the RAM usage went up to 1.87gb and the CPU fluctuated between 7-14%.
When I watched UHD channels the RAM usage went up to 2.25gb and the CPU fluctuated between 11-16%.
When scrolling through the EPG at full speed the cpu spiked up into the 60% regions, but the ram seemed unaffected.
I streamed a Dolby vision 12Bit TrueHD remux movie 103gb at 83.6Mbit/s using the Syncler and Weyd apps.
RAM usage went up to 2.42gb and CPU fluctuated between 8-16%.
Conclusion if you are just wanting a device to run iptv then you don’t need a high end device to do so.
The Dcolor DG1 is probably ample enough for the task.
If you want a device that supports all video and sound codecs and running other media streaming apps then look at higher end devices.

Which Amlogic chip and device do you have?

Was your test using a VPN that could change things
First test was without a VPN enabled.
This is the results with the VPN connected
PIA VPN connected to a UK server.
FHD channels RAM at 1.90gb
CPU Fluctuating between 11-18%
UHD channels RAM at 2.26gb
CPU Fluctuating between 12-22%.
Slight increase in CPU usage with a VPN enabled.

Very good. I should imagine though the processor and type of Ram on device and actual quality of actual hardware on device are huge factors.

Because if we took those stats. A sheild tv would be running close to max and would not be able to play 4k streams. With a vpn switched on

Which we all know it can with ease and play some quite demanding games

Looking then in menus it says memory is 2gb and 600mb available. That's on the menus screen

Also says only 1080 p even the device is set to 4k

I see what you’re saying.
But I think for just running iptv I don’t think you need a high end device.
I just think these stick devices are ample to just run iptv and Shields and devices like mine are bit overkill imo.
But great for picture and sound codecs if you have a high tv and sound system to play high quality content.

Yes it was great info and interesting. One of the best posts I have read for a long time.

Looks like your device is using 1.6gb of RAM with just background apps running and by the looks of it similar to my device.
Looking at my results you don’t need that much more RAM just to run iptv even with a vpn running.
I do have more spare ram but it’s not needed unless I started running multiple apps at the same time which I don’t do really other than a vpn and Tivimate at the same time.
As for the 1080p issue not sure with that one other than play some 4k content and check what your tv info states it as.

I'll take some pics of what I've found. Nothing running all apps closed it using most of its memory. Says 400-500mbs free

When I was viewing FHD channels the RAM only went up couple hundred megabytes.
It’s when I was viewing UHD channels the RAM went up about 500mb.
See how it performs viewing UHD channels as that will probably test it the best.
