Brand new - Newbie - Buying F5

Hi, I've been recommended to get one of these Skybox's. So I'll probably get the F5 if you can clear this up.

What do I need to do in order to get full Sky HD?

You need an F5, sat dish and broadband.

You need an ethernet connection between your router
and your box, so you might need a pair of
homeplugs too depending where everthing is.

Don't go down the WiFi route, it's a bit
hit and miss

You need to pay a subscription to a server,
anywhere between about £50 - 100 per year.

But don't go to cheap as you will get glitchy viewing.

Okay, got my Skybox set up.. but when it loads up, it has NoCh on the front of it. Which I know is no channels.

It seems to be frozen on the main sort of menu on the screen and I can't do anything. I've tried changing remote batteries etc. but nothing.

There's a USB in the back that it's picking up with a channel list but can't do anything to upload them.

Any ideas?

Doesn't the menu screen scroll through the options (Edit channel, Installation, System Setup etc.) when you press the up/down/right/left arrow keys around the OK button? (or the vol up/down keys).

Nope, nothing! Tried switching on and off a few times too.

NoCH message means there isn't a channel list installed.

Sorry ! just re read your post, sounds like a faulty remote or box
do you know anyone with the same box, you could try their remote.

I don't I'm afraid.. Contacted the person who I bought it off. More waiting!

My mate got one with a faulty remote, he sent it back
and they sent him a new one, I used mine to check weather
it was the remote or the box.

Does the F5 have front panel buttons under a flap?

just got an F5 skybo to cover me while my vu+ duo is repaired, having trouble getting some of the HD channels mostly movies and stuff, get them all in sd but not ibn hd it says no signal. any help

If you want to check a remote, you can point it at a digital camera, webcam, phone camera, etc. & press the buttons on the remote. You should see the infra red LED on the end of the remote flickering.

Do you have any other satellite boxes connected at the same time to the same LNB as the F5?

have a sky box connect to different feed from the lnb. but had a vu+duo box connect last week and it got everything, just this box not getting hd movies and sports, although it does get the odd channel like sport 1 in hd and one movie channel in hd, reset the box done a channel search but still nothing

Sounds like it needs the "no signal fix". It's a diode connected in series with the LNB cable. This is a known problem when using a skybox/openbox with another box on the same LNB.

They are available on ebay if you search for "no signal fix".

thanks ordered a set of ebay £5, person I got the box of was so unhelpful tried to say it was my ccam but hopefully this will sort out the problem.From reading the seller info on ebay it states exactly what is wrong with my box

got the signal fix and it worked kid of, I get most hd movies and sfyfy and stuff but there are still a couple I cannot get. WATCH hd and sky movies classic hd ect.. would it be my location???? had vu+ dou hoock up around two weeks ago and got everything, just this dam f5 box

not old 80cm disc with a newer 8 input lnb works ok with the sky box in my sisters room just this f5 box not getting watch hd and just a couple of other hd channels. get the +1 channel. In North west or northern Ireland

Hello everyone,

Got it fixed! Spoke to who I bought the remote off and they told me to pull the springs out on the + side so that the batteries touched and it worked!

Hi dougle34,

Switch off the proper sky+ box and reboot your router and F5 box and see
if they clear.

Some boxes won't work properly when you have got both boxes running off the same LNB
have a read here
It's still a bit inconclusive


Just another thought,
have you tried loading the latest channel list to make sure the frequency
for the channel is correct ?
