HI All,
I hope you are well?!

I have a H.2H running VM... Box in living room was bought all setup, Bedroom box Ive just setup myself... both boxes with same line provider, different lines per box...

Both boxes work simultaneously, watching different channels etc however...

When watching a premium channel like discovery on one box and MTV on the other, the channels are prone to freezing for a few seconds and the channel change can be about 7-10 seconds before the picture appears.

if I turn one box off, all works seamless with no issues?

I'm using official VM splitter and VM cabling to each box. My house is a new build so VM installed all wiring, I merely added the splitter and used their cabling from wall to box.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal, a line issue or because VM can be a pain splitting the feeds? Would it make sense to have a line with one provider and another line with a different provider because it could be the same provider is causing conflict down the line?

SNR Locked at 29%
AGC 9%

Any thoughts would be great.

Looks to me like a signal issue. 29% is quite low if that is a true figure. So when in use on 2 boxes it will be lower.

Not sure if I can do anything with the signal though, is that not controlled by VM?

If you have a suggestion on boosting the signal that would be great

Ok thanks, I'll take a look.

I was thinking of contact vm online chat and asking if my signal is normal but seeing as I use them for broadband they may question ha!

Anyway thanks again pal.

Just taken a look and this seems ideal...

For my setup, everything installed by VM as mentioned before I have the brown box outside which feeds a wire to the front room then splits between bb and tv....

Outside there is another vm cable split from the same box through the walls to the bedroom...

If I got the booster, this would be connected in the front room with the broadband and tv..... I'd have to buy another booster for the bedroom is that right or would one booster be suficcient? I can't technically use the same booster to feed all lines because I don't have the cables in the same place for that....

I think on certain images there's a bug so that that's shown as the signal level constantly regardless of what channel etc. Is it Vix you're on by any chance?

I have a similar issue. I think it's down to the H2H tuner.

Hi, it is VIX I'm running....

Just seems very strange to me and actually can't figure out what it is...

I'd be interested to know if others have the same issue on a different build....

Ok thanks.

Just read in the VM forums that for signal issues they put an attenuator on the cable, I might get a couple of those and see if that helps... have you had any dealings with these and if so any good?

Never needed to use them myself so couldn't comment but there's quite a bit of information in the general cable section on here.

Tried searching for information on this but very hard to find, if anyone has a link they could post that would be great...

An attenuator will lower your signal, best not use that. I doubt if it is signal related, as you will have a set level of signal at the end of the cable that plugs into your boxes. It will not make a difference if your boxes are switched on or off. The signal will stay the same.

It sounds like it could be noise being put back down the cable from the box that you are turning off. If you can get hold of a 50db return path noise blocker (highly unlikely) and put that inline with the connection going to the box you are switching off, that may well help. If you can get one, might as well get 2, one for each box.

Hi, thanks for the information and reply, it helps to rule additional things out...

So I've noticed today that if one tv is watching non premium channels (basically) freeview and the other is on premium then I get no freezing at all and picture quality is perfect...

This could suggest it may not be a signal issue?

Now both boxes are running individual lines but with the same provider... both boxes are h2h running vm.... both boxes have the exact same setup so could there be a conflict somewhere?

Hi, I've heard that vm can up the signal and also some splitters, noise filters can cause this problem.
Do you have noise filter and splitter or just the splitter?

VM can only change the signal if called out for a fault, and an engineer is on site. It can't be done remotely. Splitters will only lower the signal by a set amount. It doesn't matter if a box is on or off after the split. The signal will remain the same at each point.

I wouldn't have thought that it would be a conflict in regards to box set up. Unless both boxes have the same ip address? But I believe that they get his automatically based on what your router allocates. It could be worth trying to manually set a fixed IP for both boxes (different ip for each box).

If there is an IP conflict, maybe they can't ping the server properly when they are both switched on.

Hi thanks for the reply. I just have a splitter.

As mentioned before vm has put outside one wire that goes upstairs and then one wire that goes to the front room.... originally they didn't connect the upstairs wire so I put a vm splitter there.

Inside the front room is one wire coming i which splits off with one to tv and one to broadband... to my knowledge I'm not using noise filters...

Cables outside and routed inside appear to be RG6 which is the thicker wire, then from the front room to the equipment is thinner wire which is likely vm RG56. I changed these wires to vm RG6 but the issue is the same, so I have all the correct cabling and splitters. Checked signals through broadband and they're 1.7,1.9,22 db so to me they're fine, not too high or too low...

I am really at the end of my tether to be honest, I think I'd rather throw the boxes in the bin than keep trying to find the cause.

I don't want to buy a hdu, firstly trying to get a VM one is impossible and secondly I don't know if it is a signal issue at least from the vm input at least.

As a test I have connected an RG6 cable to the router and splitter... every 5 mins I get pixelation for a second or two.... changing the cable back to RG6 and that stops completely (this is only when watching one tv) when watching to I get the fault all the time....

I'm thinking that the way vm installed the cabling I'd assume they'd be connecting everything the same way I have so unsure what else it could be....

Hi mate thanks for the info.... it could be then as I mentioned earlier a box issue?

Both have their own IP so rules that out.... I did consider flashing one of them with an older version of vix, currently I'm running vix 5.1

If anyone has another backup or newer one that doesn't have this issue but is using two h2h boxes at the same time that would be great...
