try a vpn not don't listen to everyone who says they do not need vpn with virgin media it may depend on your iptv supplier.

what do you mean hub and router you mean the virgin media router if so you need other router I use deco m4 mesh system they act as my router and the virgin media router is changed to modem mode.
Where do you change that?
you need to log into router and select modem mode but it is of no use to you if you do not have another router to connect to virgin media one
I don't.....any other ideas?should I change from 2.4gz to 5gz?

You said in your first post about HDMI and ethernet cables, what device are you using for IPTV?
if you are having problem and it is connected via ethernet then try vpn also have you tried on another device say mobile phone
