Celtic's Neil Lennon has won the Clydesdale Bank Premier League manager of the month award for December.

The Scottish Premier League leaders won four of their five league games last month, helping them create a nine-point gap at the top.

The award is Lennon's first of the season, having claimed four monthly prizes last term.

With the SPL in the middle of its winter break, Celtic are spending time training in Marbella.

[h=5]Sean.png

CELTIC legend Sean Fallon has died at the age of 90. Sean passed away peacefully earlier this morning (Friday), surrounded by his family.

Sean was a much-loved husband, father and grandfather, and he was also held in the highest esteem by the Celtic Family. Sean, a proud Irishman, was a wonderful and faithful servant of Celtic over many years, first as a player, making 254 appearances and scoring 14 goals, and then as assistant to Jock Stein during a golden era for the club.

Sean was also responsible for bringing many great players to Celtic much as Tommy Gemmell, Danny McGrain, Kenny Dalglish, Davie Hay, Lou Macari and Pat Bonner.

Celtic chief Executive Peter Lawwell said; “This is very, very sad news and our thoughts are with Sean’s wife, Myra, their children Marie-Therese, Louise, Collette, Siobhan, Sean and Sinead, and all of Sean’s family and many friends.

“Sean Fallon was a Celtic legend who devoted much of his life to the club he loved. He was, of course, a supporter, first and foremost, and he was proud to have worn the green and white Hoops that he loved.

“He did so with fearless distinction over eight years in the 1950s, and Sean was at the heart of all of our triumphs, including that famous 7-1 League Cup victory in 1957.

“Ten years later, he was part of our greatest ever success, winning the European Cup in Lisbon. Working alongside Jock Stein, Sean helped to deliver that trophy, along with nine consecutive league titles and numerous other trophies. He was an integral part of the club’s success, and also played a vital role in identifying talented young players who would go on to become great Celts.

“He was a gentleman with a great sense of humour, and always a welcome guest here at Celtic Park. And there could have been no more fitting person to unveil the championship flag at this start of this, our 125th anniversary season, than a man who gave so much to Celtic Football Club.

“Sean will be sadly missed but he will never be forgotten for what he did for our club.”

Celtic manager, Neil Lennon said: “We are all shocked and saddened to hear of Sean’s death, and the thoughts of all the players and management are with his family.

“Sean was a great Celtic man, and it’s been a privilege to meet him over the years. He was always a very humble man when you met him, even though his achievements in the game were extraordinary.

“He did everything you could ever wish to achieve in football, as a player for both club and country, while he went to even greater things in management alongside Jock Stein. For these things, the Celtic supporters have always loved Sean and recognised him as one of our own because it was always his great love of Celtic which shone through.

“It was a fitting tribute that Sean unveiled the championship flag back in August and the welcome he received from the supporters spoke volumes. We will all miss him.”

The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Celtic, and indeed, the entire Celtic Family, are with Sean’s family at this very sad time.

Rest In Peace Sean, YNWA.

Pure Class- who says Lennon has no sense of humour

Saw that one in the paper somewhere, with a few extra ones added in, a bit caustic, just how I like it.

FIFA President expresses sympathy for Sean Fallon

By: Mark Henderson on 23 Jan, 2013

FIFA President Sepp Blatter has offered his sympathies following the recent passing of Sean Fallon in a letter to Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell.

A Requiem Mass for the Celtic great was held this morning at Christ the King Church in Kings Park, with the funeral taking place at Phillipshill Cemetery in East Kilbride.

A number of players past and present were at the service, including many of the Lisbon Lions. Manager Neil Lennon, Chief Executive, Peter Lawwell, and a host of other club directors also attended.

Eulogies were read by Sean Fallon junior and Manchester United manager, Alex Ferguson, a long-time friend of the Irishman.

And the FIFA President has also added his condolences on behalf of the international football family, highlighting the esteem Sean Fallon was held in across the globe for what he achieved at his beloved Celtic.

He said: "In addition to a successful career as a player for Celtic, Mr Fallon will also be remembered for his great technical knowledge as assistant manager of Celtic during the Jock Stein era, fulfilling a role that is of such vital importance to the game, namely identifying and nurturing young talent.

"Youth development work such as that carried out by Mr Fallon to such good effect continues to be important to this day, and he will have been pleased to note the emergence of several young talents in recent years, who have most certainly played their part in Celtic’s recent success, most notably in the Champions League.

“On behalf of the members of the international football family, I should be extremely grateful if you could extend our deepest condolences to Mr Fallon’s family, friends and loved ones.”

Congratulations to Danny Bhoy O`Connor on his win in Boston on Saturday night :)

Delight as Celtic sign Irish Under-15s captain

By: Mark Henderson on 28 Jan, 2013 12:20THE Celtic Youth Academy are delighted to announce that they have completed the signing of highly-rated*Republic of*Ireland Under-15 captain, Brandon Payne.*The 15-year-old, who currently plays with Dublin-based side, Lucan United, has penned a pre-contract agreement with the club. He will join the Hoops in January 2014 on a three-year deal.*A box-to-box midfielder, Payne had attracted interest from a number of clubs on this side of the Irish Sea but Celtic pulled out all the stops and won the race for his signature.*The club brought the teenager and his family over to Glasgow, and Neil Lennon and Chief Executive Peter Lawwell were both involved in helping to convince the youngster that his future lay in Paradise.*Speaking to the official website, Celtic´s Head of Youth, Chris McCart said: "We had been monitoring Brandon, and there had been real interest in*him from*a lot of the English clubs, so it was great credit to*get someone of his calibre*signed.*"He is a very good standard, with being captain of the Republic of Ireland Under-15s, and is the type of player we want to bring to Celtic.*"Peter Lawwell and Neil Lennon were both involved in the signing process. We brought his family across and they were absolutely delighted with that, and the manager also brought him in for a small part of the training.*"His father and family are massive Celtic fans so it was a dream come true for them to come over and meet Neil Lennon and the first-team staff. It´s a great selling point for us in Ireland that there is that attachment to Celtic there. He really is signing for his boyhood heroes.*"Brandon is still young and has a lot of hard work ahead, and everyone appreciates that, but considering the amount of English clubs who were trying to sign him, this is an excellent signing for us."*Payne will initially be part of the club´s Under-17 set-up and will work under Professional Academy manager, Tommy McIntyre, and U16 Academy manager, Michael O´Halloran.*And his capture fits in with the Celtic Academy´s recruitment strategy*of only*bringing in players from outwith Scotland who are of an exceptional standard.**"It´s been a long while since we have signed a captain from any age group within the Republic, so again we are setting out the benchmark in the standard of player we are looking to sign now," explained McCart.*"We want to make sure if we are bringing someone in that we raise the bar.*Brandon*is a box-to-box player. He can receive, pass and score goals. He models himself on one of the current Celtic players but I won´t mention who as I don´t want to put pressure on him.*"But he is one we are excited about getting. We only want to bring in players who will add to the growing amount of Scottish internationalists we have in the Academy, and we feel he will certainly do that.*"We also have to say a big thanks to Lucan United, particularly*John Doyle, their chairman, and Ciaran Masterton, their team manager, who were excellent to deal with and very professional.*"But the major factor in it was the*father being a huge Celtic fan," he added. "His house is a shrine to Celtic, and his mum and dad travel across every couple of weeks. That was a major influence in getting him, and we are absolutely delighted."

Has anybody heard the story about danny wilson being ineligable for saturdays league cup semi final against inverness?

Does the mean that the SFA will have to boot the mini huns out of the final?

Lets hope this is the case and after a bad result weekend it could mean that there is a light at the end off this weeks tunnel

#bootheartsoutthecup

This is from the Daily Ran*ers, with a few words edited :(

INVERNESS have been told that The Diet Huns defender Danny Wilson was eligible for their semi-final clash on Saturday despite leaving the Zombies with an outstanding League Cup suspension.

Wilson was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity when the Zombies won the 2010 final against St Mirren and was automatically suspended for his next game in the competition.

Wilson signed for Liverpool three months later before the Zombies began the defence of their trophy and left without serving the suspension.

He returned to Scotland this month on a loan deal and made his second Diet Huns appearance as John McGlynn's side beat Inverness on penalties at Easter Road to reach the Scottish Communities League Cup final.

An Inverness statement read: "We have spoken to the SFA disciplinary committee who have confirmed that Danny was eligible to play on Saturday.

"This was checked out by The Diet Huns and the SPL prior to Saturday's game.

"There was no notice of suspension accompanying his registration paperwork when he returned from Liverpool FC."

I read on twitter that the ban was served whilst he was at liverpool in the first game off the season.

Apparently the way it works is that if he'd signed for another scottish club when he left oldco, then the suspension would have been served in the league cup, but since he went down south then the suspension became any competitive competition in England. So he missed Liverpool first game of that season this making the suspension served.

How correct that is i dont know but seems to make sense.

I initially thought that he would only be suspended in the english league cup which is incidently what he made his liverpool debut in i think it was against northampton.

The english FA run a suspended for the next game in any competion rather than what scottish FA did and individually suspend him from that tournament.
